About smallnotebook.org

smallnotebook.org is a practical reference for running a home with less effort and less spending: daily and weekly routines, decluttering, storage that works with what you already own, and planning a small container garden. Each page answers one practical question with a worked example and says exactly what was checked and what was not.

Worked examples, not household trials

Routines, storage plans and garden worksheets on this site are original planning examples. They show a method; they are not measurements of how long a task takes in a real home or what a garden will yield. Where a page relies on published guidance, it names the source and the date it was read. The container-crop ledger compares what five university extension services publish about growing vegetables in containers.

What this site leaves out

We do not give instructions for cleaning chemicals, pest control or soapmaking. Those topics need review by a qualified chemical-safety specialist, and pages on them will only appear once that review is in place. We make no structural claims about balconies or shelving, and no health or psychological claims.

Independent and new

This is a new publication under new ownership. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or a continuation of any previous author, operator or blog at this domain, and nothing published here before 2026 is republished. No earlier posts, photographs, recipes or identities are used. A few pages sit at older addresses so that existing links still lead somewhere useful; each of those pages is newly written and carries its own date.

How pages are made

Pages are written by AI systems working from university extension services, government guidance and our own worked examples, and checked against those sources before publication. The publisher directs the work and is responsible for every page. Independent review by a named homekeeping editor and a horticulture specialist is being added. The methodology and editorial policy set out the rules.

Data and sponsors

Our compilations and worksheets are licensed under CC BY 4.0; sources keep their own rights. Some pages may carry a clearly labelled sponsor module after the main content; sponsors never affect what a guide recommends or any recorded value. See disclosure.
